Focused on Solving Local Issues for Hardworking Families
June 13, 2023
Westminster, Colorado – On June 13, Obi Ezeadi, the second Black councilor in all of Westminster’s history, announced his run for 2024 State Senate District 19. As a current Westminster City Councilor and previous intern at the capitol under District 19’s current State Senator, Rachel Zenzinger, Councilman Ezeadi is well-positioned to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 election.
"As a first-generation American, I firmly believe that leadership and greatness have no bounds, and it is crucial for the Colorado Democratic Party to have representatives with diverse lived experiences who understand the struggles of all constituents," shared Councilman Ezeadi. "I am running to champion your freedoms—the freedom to receive a quality education, the freedom to love, and the freedom to ensure your voice matters."
With nearly two decades of business experience and extensive community involvement, Councilman Ezeadi is highly qualified and driven to make a positive impact. His campaign has already garnered numerous endorsements from Jefferson County and local elected officials from across Colorado, including Commissioner Andy Kerr, Representative Brianna Titone, Senate President Pro Tem James Coleman, and State Senators Jessie Danielson, Lisa Cutter, Janet Buckner, Faith Winter, and many more.
“While there is still a lot of work to be done in Westminster, and I’m hungry to do it, I’m looking forward to expanding my reach to encompass all of District 19. That way, I can help even more residents to achieve the access, resources, and engagement that they deserve from their elected officials,” shared Councilman Ezeadi, “Having served under Senator Zenzinger at the JBC last session, I have gained invaluable insights into the role, and I’m ready to pave the way to enable our district to be the best place to raise a child, start a business, and retire with dignity."
Whether through public service or political action, Councilman Ezeadi’s time on council has been a reflection of his ethos of continuously centering all voices and prioritizing health, economics and safety for a more equitable, resilient, and vibrant Westminster. Along with his colleagues, Councilman Ezeadi championed the approval of a new water treatment plant, unprecedented investments to improve roads, and executed groundbreaking negotiations. He tirelessly advocated for residents' needs across a spectrum of issues, from tackling car theft to addressing homelessness, food deserts and housing costs.
He also ushered in a new era of outreach, demonstrated by countless meetings, interactions, and initiatives aiming to foster community involvement and empowerment. Additionally, after experiencing the struggles of an outsider candidacy firsthand, Councilman Ezeadi created BIPAC, a Political Action Committee (PAC), earlier this year to provide resources for minority candidates across Colorado politics, beginning with the 2023 local municipal and school board elections.
Now, he is ready to expand that involvement to the entirety of District 19. With a campaign focused on pocketbook issues and education opportunities, he hopes to foster a community where families, workers, and local businesses can thrive. This Summer, Obi says his top priority will be helping to get candidates Amber Hott, Claire Carmelia, and Tim Pegg elected to Westminster City Council.
